Don’t Wait for Summer

Don't Wait for Summer
Don't Wait for Summer

This week, I’ve been on retreat with a group from Faith at Camp Calumet in West Ossipee, NH.

Over the course of a few days we talked and walked, laughed and sang, watched movies, attempted crafts 😊, played games, worshipped and hiked.

We could do most of these things at home. By ourselves. But what a difference it makes to get away for a few days. What a difference it makes to get outdoors when there’s snow on the ground. What a difference it makes to go on retreat with others. What a difference it makes to spend time in such a sacred place.

When most people think of camp, they think of summer. I invite you to consider Camp Calumet in the off-season. Take a few days of retreat. Rent a winterized cabin or make a reservation in the conference center (which is nicer than some motel rooms I’ve been in – and yes, there are private in-room bathrooms). Let someone else prepare meals for a change.

The gospels note that Jesus often took time away from others and his everyday life. He found it important to recharge and reconnect. If you do too…don’t wait for summer!

He (Jesus) said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.  Mark 6:31

In Christ,

Pastor Jen
