People often tell me they’d like to know more about what’s in the Bible but they don’t know how to start. Or they say that they started a reading plan in the past but gave up shortly thereafter. Or they ask for suggestions for a Lenten discipline that’s different from giving up chocolate.
Here is a suggestion for all of those questions: join us this Lent as together we read 40 stories from Scripture.
They aren’t necessarily the ‘best’ stories (depending on your definition of ‘best’), but they are stories which give us a sense of the major themes and narrative arc of our holy scriptures. If you’ve wished you were more biblically-literate, this is a good way to start!
Each day during the 40 days of Lent (which begins on Ash Wednesday, March 2), I’ll post a brief reflection on our Facebook page about the passage of the day. You might wish to add your own comments about the reading.
In preparation, it may be time for you to consider purchasing a new study Bible or a Bible in a different translation. If you prefer online reading, consider bookmarking the NET (New English Translation) Bible https://netbible.org
Is the suspense killing you? Wonder what these stories are and how many you already know? Here’s the list: https://tinyurl.com/2s57htk4 Print it out and put it on your fridge or in your Bible.
Get ready to read!
In Christ,
Pastor Jen
