For my project, I decided to make little care packages for the volunteers and nurses at Lawrence general, specifically those working at the COVID testing site. Over thanksgiving, I had contracted COVID myself and my whole family spent a good amount of time waiting in the line at Lawrence general to get a COVID test. During these testing experiences, I noticed how hard these volunteers and medical professionals work, whether it’s directing traffic, helping people fill out paper work, helping run the lab, or doing the actual testing itself. These people are outside every single day, whether it’s sunny and 90 degrees or cold and down-pouring. Their commitment to helping us and everyone else getting tested each day really shined through and struck a chord with me. We used the gift card to purchase a bunch of small market basket gift cards, along with a couple of drinks, crackers, and granola bars to keep them fueled while they are at work. It was very rewarding to get to bring these bags to the workers and see their delight in receiving an unexpected treat!
