One Second a Day

One Second a Day
One Second a Day

There are seasons of life when time seems to stand still (when we’re up night after night with a baby who doesn’t fall asleep; or sheltering in a subway station waiting for the bombing to stop).

And then there are seasons of life in which it seems that time seems to fly away.

Most of the time, I’m in the latter season. Time seems to go by so quickly. Wasn’t it recently that so-and-so graduated from preschool – how could they be graduating from high school now? Is it really our 35th wedding anniversary? That picture when we all went to the concert and had dinner afterwards – that was just last year, wasn’t it? No?

Time usually passes quickly and so I pay attention when someone shares something with me that might help me slow down. A friend from seminary shared an app called “One Second a Day”, 1SE, with me. The app invites users to share a second a day from the photos they’ve taken on their phone…and at the end of a week or a month or a year, it compiles a video of these moments to review and appreciate.

I tried it out for March. Before I share with you some of my moments…can you guess what might be there? As we look back at the month of March, what were some of the highlights from Faith Lutheran’s ministry?

Here’s the link to my March video: https://youtu.be/_eC1qjI4_OY

Did you remember about Ashes-to-Go at the Market Basket? The beginning of the war and the sunflower symbol of support for Ukrainians? Confirmation class serving at Bread and Roses? The adult seniors retreat at Calumet? The choir singing the psalms during Lent? Our first radically-family-friendly worship service where the children took on worship leadership roles?

Time passes quickly. What is your way to make sure you take the time to enjoy these moments?

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,

bears all our years away;

they fly forgotten, as a dream

dies at the op’ning day.
