{"id":8494,"date":"2020-12-17T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/wp\/?p=8494"},"modified":"2020-12-16T15:22:55","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T20:22:55","slug":"i-sing-of-your-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/?p=8494","title":{"rendered":"I Sing of Your Love"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">by Christine Hayward<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"6000\" height=\"4000\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/zack-smith-yetxsNbHavQ-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"I Sing of Your Love\" class=\"wp-image-8495\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm\u00a089: 1-4, 19-26<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>1<\/sup>I will sing of your steadfast love, O\u00a0Lord, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>2<\/sup>I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>3<\/sup>You said, \u201cI have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>4<\/sup>\u2018I will establish your descendants forever, and build your throne for all generations.\u2019\u201d Selah<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>19<\/sup>Then you spoke in a vision to your faithful one, and said: \u201cI have set the crown on one who is mighty, I have exalted one chosen from the people.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>2<\/sup><em><sup>0<\/sup>I have found my servant David; with my holy oil I have anointed him;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>21<\/sup>my hand shall always remain with him; my arm also shall strengthen him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>22<\/sup>The enemy shall not outwit him, the wicked shall not humble him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>2<\/sup><em><sup>3<\/sup>I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>24<\/sup>My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him; and in my name his horn shall be exalted.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>25<\/sup>I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><sup>26<\/sup>He shall cry to me, \u2018You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation!\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I chose this day in Advent because the Bible passage had to do with singing, specifically singing of the steadfast love of the Lord.&nbsp; Singing is something I do often, if not always well. A conversation, a prayer, a sermon can often bring to mind the lyrics of a song.&nbsp; In this season of waiting and preparation where so many things have been changed by the pandemic I find it comforting to hear the music and sing the words of familiar hymns and carols.&nbsp; They all remind me that God\u2019s love is the one thing that is unchanged.&nbsp; Whether we \u201cPrepare the Royal Highway\u201d or the \u201cPeople Look East\u201d the haunting melodies and lyrics bring hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We may have to listen to the Boston Pops Christmas concert electronically or worship on Zoom but the music is still the same, pointing towards God\u2019s steadfast love. &nbsp;So as we join in the singing of these familiar carols they prepare our hearts to receive the Lord as a tiny baby and continue to praise God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the ELW 252, we find the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen race and class cry out for treason,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When sirens call for war,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They overshout the voice of treason<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And scream till we ignore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All we held dear before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So even as the sun is turning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To journey to the north,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The living flame,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In secret burning;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can kindle on the earth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And bring God\u2019s love to birth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
