How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt?\u00a0<sup>13<\/sup>But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How will we recognize Elijah when he comes?&nbsp; As part of the Passover Seder, the Jews set a place at the table for Elijah, and leave the door open so he can come in.&nbsp; How would they recognize him?&nbsp; In our passage the disciples ask Jesus whether Elijah is coming.&nbsp; Jesus not only affirms he is coming, but also that he has already come \u2013 suggesting that John the Baptist was the \u201cElijah\u201d who came ahead of Jesus.&nbsp; But no one then recognized John as such, and in the end he was arrested and killed.&nbsp; The Old Testament Elijah suffered much at the hands of his enemies \u2013 so much so he ran off and hid in a cave, telling God he had had enough.&nbsp; He was attempting to \u201cset things right\u201d as God had commanded him.&nbsp; It wasn\u2019t an easy life for him; his enemies did not recognize him as a messenger from God.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are there other \u201cElijahs\u201d among us now, attempting to \u201crestore all things\u201d before the coming of Jesus?&nbsp; We pray we all can become like Elijah,
