{"id":8423,"date":"2020-12-14T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/wp\/?p=8423"},"modified":"2020-12-09T16:28:12","modified_gmt":"2020-12-09T21:28:12","slug":"prayer-for-blessing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/?p=8423","title":{"rendered":"Prayer for Blessing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">by Wilma Breiland<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3648\" height=\"5472\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-andover.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/priscilla-du-preez-zcJ5lyvN_tw-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"Prayer for Blessing\" class=\"wp-image-8424\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Psalm&nbsp;125<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Song of Ascents.<br><em><sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0Those who trust in the\u00a0Lord\u00a0are like Mount Zion,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.<br><sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0As the mountains surround Jerusalem,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0so the\u00a0Lord\u00a0surrounds his people,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from this time on and for evermore.<br><sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on the land allotted to the righteous,<br>so that the righteous may not stretch out<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0their hands to do wrong.<br><sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0Do good, O\u00a0Lord, to those who are good,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and to those who are upright in their hearts.<br><sup>5<\/sup>\u00a0But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0Lord\u00a0will lead away with evildoers.<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Peace be upon Israel!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThose who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides for ever.\u201d (RSV)<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you read Psalm 125, you can see that the poet is facing challenges. Psalm 125 is a prayer for deliverance from trouble and call for help. In v. 2, \u201cthe Lord is round about his people, from this time forth and for<br>evermore.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>God gives love and forgiveness and life freely to me, every day. The psalmist reminds us to &#8220;trust in the Lord&#8221; and know that God\u2019s love abideth. In v.4, the psalmist asks for God\u2019s blessing on those who do good. These gifts of God\u2019s love and steadfastness inspire me to be active with thankfulness to God &#8211; to pray for others, share with our neighbors in need, seek justice and show mercy and compassion.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loving God, help us to trust you more and bless us as we do your work with humility.
