Confirmation is a time when young people intentionally make space to learn more about their faith, wrestle with their questions, and if they choose, affirm the promises their parents\/sponsors made at their baptisms.<\/p>\n

At Faith, this is a two-year program, typically begun in seventh grade, but it could be any time a youth (or adult!) is ready. It is based on learning, connecting with others, and service.<\/p>\n

The learning<\/strong> piece includes study of the Ten Commandments, Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, and the Bible.<\/p>\n

The connection<\/strong> piece is based on relationship-building activities among the youth and other members of the congregation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The service<\/strong> piece includes service in the community (serving at local food pantry, visiting an outdoor church on Boston Common, distributing hygiene kits to those who are homeless, etc.) as well as service at church (as musicians, Sunday School helpers, ushers, readers, etc.)<\/p>\n

Throughout these two years the youth are expected to attend worship regularly.<\/p>\n

At the end of the second year, there is a retreat at church where the youth prepare faith statements to share with the congregation on Confirmation Sunday. The faith statements relate to the five promises of baptism: to live among God’s faithful people; to proclaim the good news of God in word and deed; to hear the Word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper; to care for others and the world God made; and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.<\/p>\n
